Jenkins Named to Republican Platform Committee

BATON ROUGE — Central City News editor Woody Jenkins has been elected as Louisiana's member of the Platform Committee at the Republican National Convention in August.
The Platform Committee will draft the party's platform for the fall elections.

Central City News Honored for General Excellence

LAFAYETTE — The Central City News won some of journalism's highest awards at the recent Louisiana Press Association convention in Lafayette.
The Central City News won awards for General Excellence, Community Service, Best Feature Writing, and three awards for Best Photography.
Central City News editor Woody Jenkins was honored for Feature Writing and Best Photography.  News photographer Rhonda Gerald was also honored for Best Photography.

State's Best 9th, 10th, and 11th Graders

CITY OF CENTRAL — The Central Community School System has the state's best 9th graders, 10th graders, and 11th graders, according to the Louisiana Department of Education's latest LEAP test scores.
The nearby Zachary Community School System has the best 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in the state, according to the same scores.
Students are not test in the 1st, 2nd, and 12th grades.
